Frequently Asked Questions
- How do we register our marriage?
- What about our marriage certificate ?
- Do we need to have witnesses to our marriage?
- Are there certain words that have to be included in
the vows?
- Can we be married anywhere we want?
- When should I book the celebrant?
Your celebrant registers your marriage. This
is done immediately following the ceremony, via the
internet, probably
before you get to the reception.
Your celebrant will present you with a commemorative, government approved,
laser calligraphy printed
certificate at the wedding ceremony. However if you wish to change your
name on your licence or at the Passports Office you will need to order a
certificate from the Registry of Births Deaths and Marriages in your State.
Your celebrant can do this for you when they register your marriage.
If you don't wish your celebrant to do this, you
may apply yourself at any time following the
ceremony, however keep in mind that you will need to
provide three forms of I.D. to do so.
Yes, you need to have two witnesses who appear to your celebrant to be over
the age of 18 years. These two people and your celebrant have to hear you
make your vows to each other.
There are words which by law have to be included in your vows. Your
celebrant will ensure that these words are included.
That is so. I am able to marry you anywhere
within Australia, at any time and place that we can both agree
is suitable.
Definitely as early as possible. Make a booking as soon as you know the
date and approximate time you intend to marry. Your celebrant will
probably be booked out many months ahead of time and you don't want to miss out
on the date and time of your choice.
